Integrating Meter Readings During Inspection

In FieldEx, inspection checklists can be configured to update an asset’s status and meter reading automatically based on technician input. This ensures that field inspections keep your asset database accurate, without needing separate admin steps.

Meters in FieldEx are used to track operational measurements tied to specific assets such as hours run, distance travelled, energy consumed, or cycles completed. These readings support preventive maintenance, usage tracking, and performance analytics. Meter fields appear automatically for assets that belong to types with predefined meter configurations.

Useful Pre-requisites

  • Meters must be configured and linked to specific Asset Types via the Admin module.

  • The asset must be assigned a Classification that enables analytics (e.g. Equipment).

  • Users must have permission to view or log meter readings on the asset.

Where to View Meter Readings

  1. Go to Assets > Select Asset.

  2. Navigate to the Additional Details section.

  3. You’ll see the field: Latest {Meter Name} Reading

This is a read-only field that displays the most recent recorded value.

The system dynamically shows all meters tied to the asset’s type. For example:

  • Hour Meter for generators

  • Distance for vehicles

  • Cycles for pumps

How Meter Readings Are Updated

  • Job Completion

    • Technicians can enter meter values in job checklists.

    • If the checklist field is mapped to the meter, the value updates automatically upon job completion.

  • Manual Entry (if enabled)

    • Some setups may allow direct meter logging via a separate module or during asset servicing.

These readings are validated against expected formats (e.g. numeric) and compared to the previous reading to prevent rollback errors.

Why This Matters

  • Ensures maintenance schedules can be triggered based on actual usage.

  • Prevents overuse or servicing delays for high-run assets.

  • Enables calculation of performance metrics like cost per usage hour.
