In FieldEx, inspection checklists can be configured to record and update an asset’s status and meter reading automatically based on technician input. This ensures that field inspections keep your asset database accurate, without needing separate admin steps.

This article explains:

  • How to enable status and meter reading updates inside a checklist

  • What technicians see during the inspection

  • Where to find updated data in the system

Enabling Asset Status and Meter Updates

Path: Settings > Workflow > Checklists > Open Checklist > Details Tab

  1. Select or create the checklist

  2. Enable Update Asset Status if technicians should be allowed to mark the asset as “Operational,” “Needs Repair,” etc.

  3. Enable Update Meter Reading if technicians will input usage hours, mileage, or other interval-based metrics

  4. Select whether you would like these updates before or after checklist completion

  5. Click Save to activate these settings

Tip: These updates are pulled directly into the asset record so there’s no need for the technician to visit a separate screen or module.

Common Use Cases

  • Vehicle Preventive Maintenance: Update mileage reading and mark unit as “Due for Service”

  • Generator Inspection: Log hours used and flag asset as “Needs Repair”

  • Rental Return: Mark asset as “Ready to Rent” or “Requires Cleaning”
