In FieldEx, Job Order Types help categorise your operational workflows. Whether you’re managing Preventive Maintenance, Emergency Repairs, Installations, or Warehouse Transfers, creating specific job types improves reporting, filters, and field clarity.
Creating a Job Order Type
Path: Settings > Modules > Job Orders > Picklists > Types > New
Click New to create a new type
Enter a Label for the job type (e.g., “Corrective Maintenance” or “Site Inspection”)
Order: Choose the sort order if you want to control dropdown sequence
Status: Set to Active so it appears in job creation
Default: Toggle if this should be the default type when new jobs are created
Controlling Allowed Statuses per Job Type
Each job order type can have a custom set of allowed statuses. This controls what options appear in the status dropdown when that type is selected during job creation or updates.
Scroll to the section Available Statuses for this Type
You'll see two columns:
Not for this Job Order Type: Statuses that won’t appear
For this Job Order Type: Statuses that will be selectable
Use the arrow buttons to move statuses between the two
You can also drag and drop or use Move All for bulk updates
This is especially useful when certain job types should never reach statuses like "Invoiced" or "Verified" for internal tasks or non-billable inspections for example.
Example: For a job type like “Warehouse Transfer”, you may only allow statuses like:
– Draft
– Scheduled
– In Progress
– Completed
…and exclude statuses like “Awaiting Client Confirmation” or “Invoiced”
Best Practices
Use job types that match real operational categories. E.g., “PM”, “Breakdown”, “New Installation”, “Transfer”
Limit statuses to avoid confusion or misuse in the field
Use consistent naming across templates, analytics, and reporting
