The FieldEx Mobile App is the main tool used by technicians in the field to accept, update, and complete assigned tasks. As a Planner, understanding how the app works helps you interpret status updates, respond to technician queries, and track job progress in real time.

This article explains:

  • What technicians see and do in the mobile app

  • How task acceptance and progress updates appear on the web

  • How to communicate with technicians through task notes

Technician Task Acceptance

When a Planner assigns a task, it instantly appears in the technician’s mobile dashboard under “My Tasks.” Here’s how it works:

  1. Technician receives a push notification (if enabled)

  2. They open the task and tap Start to begin work

  3. The task status changes from Scheduled to In Progress automatically

Planner View: On the web, you’ll see this status change reflected in real time under the job timeline or technician calendar view. You can also track the technician’s progress as they complete forms or upload photos.

Using Task Notes for Two-Way Communication

Each task includes a Notes section where both technicians and planners can post messages. This acts like a job-specific chat channel for field communication.

Example uses:

  • Technician: “Can’t locate the compressor – is it in storage?”

  • Planner: “Yes, check the northwest corner. Bin C3.”

All notes are time-stamped and stored under the task, so you can reference them later during reviews or debriefs.

Tip: Use task notes instead of external chats and this keeps all job-related communication inside the record for better traceability.

Submission and Task Completion

Once work is done, the technician completes and submits their assigned tasks the task:

  • All required fields must be filled in (photos, dropdowns, signatures, etc.)

  • Technician taps Complete Task

  • Status changes to Completed on the planner’s web dashboard

This status change may also trigger automated workflows such as follow-up jobs, verifications, or client notifications, depending on your setup.
