As your operations grow or restructure, you may need to revise how your inventory locations are labeled or described. In FieldEx, Locations represent your top-level physical storage points such as warehouses or depots. This guide walks you through how to safely edit a Location’s details without affecting stock accuracy or disrupting workflows.

What is a Location?

A Location in FieldEx represents a physical storage site such as a warehouse, depot, or jobsite store. It is the top level in the inventory hierarchy and contains zones (sub-sections) and bins (actual stock points).

Updating a location ensures consistency across inventory reports, technician filters, and transfer workflows.

How to Edit a Location

Path: Settings > Inventory > Locations > [Select Location] > Edit

  1. Go to the Settings menu.

  2. Select Inventory.

  3. Open the Locations tab.

  4. Click on the location name you wish to edit.

  5. Click Edit in the top-right corner.

  6. Update any of the following fields:

    • Location Name (e.g., rename from “Warehouse A” to “East Regional Store”)

    • Short Code

    • Address or Contact Details

    • Notes or Descriptions

  7. Click Save to apply changes.

Tip: You cannot delete a location that contains active zones or bins. Reassign or archive those first if removal is needed.

When to Edit a Location

  • Company has rebranded or restructured regional sites

  • You need to correct spelling, casing, or duplicate entries

  • You want to align location names with official warehouse naming

  • Address or responsibility for the site has changed

Best Practices

  • Keep naming conventions consistent across all locations (e.g., use “Depot – North” instead of “North Depot”).

  • Only rename locations when necessary changes affect filters, reports, and visibility settings.

  • Use the short code to differentiate similar-named locations (e.g., “Tech Store” vs. “Tech Store – West”).

Summary

  • Locations are editable through Settings > Inventory > Locations.

  • You can change name, code, address, and notes.

  • Editing a location does not affect stock unless bins are renamed or moved.

  • Always confirm updates with your team before applying changes across shared warehouses.
