FieldEx lets you generate and download unique QR or barcode labels for every asset. These labels help technicians quickly identify assets in the field using the mobile app, enabling faster inspections, task initiation, and data access.

This article explains:

  • How to download QR labels for assets

  • How technicians scan QR codes in the mobile app

  • Common use cases for scanning workflows

When Codes Are Generated

  • A QR or barcode is automatically generated when a new asset is created via the Asset Create page.

  • The code is linked to the asset’s internal ID and stored within the system.

  • The format supports both scanning and lookup functionality.

  • No manual generation is required—FieldEx handles this automatically in the background.

Downloading QR/Barcode Labels

Path: Assets > Open Asset > Asset Overview (right-hand side)

Each asset in FieldEx comes with a scannable QR code generated automatically. Here’s how to download it:

  1. Navigate to Assets and select the relevant asset

  2. On the right-hand side panel, locate the QR Code preview

  3. Click the Download button directly below the QR image

  4. Print the downloaded label and apply it to the physical asset

The QR code is linked to that specific asset record and can be scanned using the FieldEx mobile app.

Tip: Print labels on durable material and place them in visible, accessible locations on the equipment.

How Technicians Use QR Scanning in the Field

QR labels aren’t just for inventory they’re fully integrated into technician workflows:

  1. Technician opens the FieldEx Mobile App

  2. Taps the QR Scanner icon on the home screen

  3. Points camera at the QR label on the asset

  4. The asset record opens instantly with details, history, and active jobs

From there, technicians can:

  • View asset condition and last maintenance

  • Start a job or inspection checklist directly

  • Log faults, comments, or meter readings

Real-World Use Cases

QR/barcode integration supports:

  • Quick inspections: Technicians can launch inspection checklists without needing to search for the asset

  • Emergency repairs: Scan, flag fault, and start a corrective maintenance job immediately

  • Spare parts verification: Technicians can validate the correct asset before using consumables or submitting reports

It’s a smart way to reduce data entry, prevent asset confusion, and improve traceability.

Why This Matters

  • Speeds up asset identification and reduces manual entry errors.

  • Enables technicians to initiate workflows instantly from field locations.

  • Supports real-time movement tracking and operational accuracy.
