In FieldEx, asset records support photos and QR/barcode codes for faster identification, mobile scanning, and real-world tagging. These features make it easier for custodians and technicians to recognize, scan, and manage assets directly in the field.
Configuration Setup
Before using codes or photos, make sure your asset module is correctly configured.
Path: Setup > Modules > Asset > Configuration
Here, you can:
Enable or disable barcode/QR code visibility
Choose the code format (e.g., asset ID, serial number, or custom code)
Control whether QR/barcode is auto-generated
Note: Any settings here will apply globally to all asset records in your workspace. |
Uploading a Photo to an Asset
You can attach a photo to help field teams visually verify the asset during inspection, handover, or servicing.
Path: Assets > New Asset or open any asset and click Edit
Find the Photo field in the General Details section
Drag and drop your image or browse to upload
Click Save
Tip: Use clear, front-facing photos that show the label, serial, or tag on the asset body. |
Viewing QR or Barcode on an Asset
Each asset record has a unique code, which can be used to generate a QR or barcode label.
Path: Assets > Select Asset
Look at the Overview Panel on the right-hand side of the asset record.
The code displayed here may be:
The asset’s Serial Number
A system-generated Asset ID
A custom Code set during creation
Use this code when printing physical labels or assigning scannable tags.
Scanning Codes in the Field (Mobile App)
Technicians and custodians can scan the code on a physical asset using the mobile app to instantly open its record.
Path: FieldEx Mobile App > Tap Scan Icon
Open the FieldEx Mobile App
Tap the Scan icon on the bottom bar
Point the camera at the QR or barcode
The corresponding asset record opens with available actions:
View details
Transfer or update status
Start a job or inspection
Great for real-time lookups, audits, and job kickoffs in the field.
