In FieldEx, asset performance insights are tracked using system-calculated metrics tied to usage, downtime, and cost history. These metrics help assess how efficiently assets are being used, when to plan replacements, and which assets may be underperforming. Metrics are visible in the asset record for assets classified as Equipment or Vehicle.

Useful Pre-requisites

  • The asset must have the Classification field set to Equipment or Vehicle to unlock analytics fields.

  • Jobs must be consistently linked to assets with proper Job Type Tags (e.g., “Repair”, “Maintenance”).

  • Spare part costs and job check-in times must be entered accurately for calculations to be valid.

  • Asset Status and Condition must be updated over time to reflect true usage.

Where to Find Performance Metrics

Path: Assets > Select Asset > Analytics Section

  • Go to Assets and select the asset record.

  • Scroll to the Analytics section (available only if Classification = Equipment or Vehicle).

  • Review the following grouped insights:

    • Lifespan and Financials

    • Usage and Downtime

    • Maintenance and Repair Metrics

    • Performance & Cost Analysis

These metrics are either calculated automatically or based on job activity, condition, and cost logs.

Key Metrics and How They Are Calculated

Metric

Description

Formula

Time Used

Actual time in use (Status = Active)

Sum of durations when status = Active

Total Available Time

Operational potential time

Sum of Active + Idle status durations

Utilization Rate

Efficiency of use

(Time Used ÷ Total Available Time) × 100

Remaining Useful Life (RUL)

Projected lifespan left

Estimated Lifespan − Asset Age

Asset Age

Time since acquisition

Current Date − Purchase Date

Total Downtime Period

Total time unavailable

Sum of durations when status = Downtime

MTTR

Avg. time to repair

Total Repair Time ÷ Number of Repairs

MTBF

Avg. time between failures

Total Available Time ÷ Number of Repairs

Failure Rate

Failure frequency

(Total Downtime ÷ Total Available Time) × 100

Operating Costs per Hour

Avg. cost per operational hour

(Lifetime Repair + Maintenance Cost) ÷ Total Available Time

Repair Costs per Hour

Repair cost per usage hour

Lifetime Repair Cost ÷ Total Available Time

Lifetime Repair Cost

Total repair expenses

Sum of repair job costs (parts × qty)

Lifetime Maintenance Cost

Total scheduled maintenance costs

Sum of maintenance job costs (parts × qty)

Note: Monetary values are shown in the organisation's default currency. Durations are shown in months or years where applicable.

Why This Matters

  • Identifies underperforming or over-utilized assets.

  • Supports lifecycle and budgeting decisions with real data.

  • Enables benchmarking across asset types or regions.

Tips for Accurate Metrics

  • Ensure all jobs are properly tagged by Job Type (e.g., Repair, Inspection).

  • Use technician check-in/out times to improve accuracy of usage and repair time.

  • Keep asset statuses and conditions current to reflect actual downtime and availability.
